Giving God 'Elbow Room'
The time was structured according to six sessions on the theme of
“Our Life in Yeshua: in the home, in the workplace, in worship, in
crisis, and in outreach."
A major point reiterated throughout the weekend was that of our complete
dependence on God to be able to be led by Him. Are we allowing ourselves
to be filled with the Spirit, or are we filled with our own concerns?
The Spirit of Yeshua cannot fill us unless we are emptied of all else.
Cracked Pots for God
Another major point was that God’s Spirit shines best through “cracked
pots,” that is, the weaknesses of ordinary people who are given totally
to Him. Living for the Lord should not be about the survival of the
strongest, but revival from the weakest. Applying this point to living a
life of outreach, Sam Nadler taught on the excuses of Moses (Ex. 3—4).
We saw that all of Moses’ excuses not to serve God, just like our lame
excuses, didn’t really hold up. God will use anyone, and indeed delights
in using those who don’t necessarily have it all together. Several of
the men including myself were not only convicted by these points, but we
were encouraged to recognize our need to more fully depend on God’s
leading as we live lives totally committed to Him.
