Building Up One Another
By
Miriam Nadler

Miriam Nadler
Helping to build up congregations is a privilege that both Sam and I greatly enjoy. Just a few weeks ago we were invited to Southern California to minister for the weekend at Ben David Messianic Congregation in Irvine, CA. We landed on Friday morning and on our way from the airport to Irvine we had special treat as we took time to meet our oldest son Josh for lunch.

Some of you have been praying for Josh who has been out in Los Angeles for the past few years working in the film industry. Please don’t stop praying because God is giving Josh opportunity to share his faith and have input into projects and films that will have impact to glorify the Lord.

Ben David Community
Friday evening we met with the elders and their wives of Ben David Messianic Congregation for dinner. It was a time of prayerful consideration for growth opportunities in reaching the lost sheep of the house Israel in their county. Ben David is a warm and vibrant group of people who desire to grow in Messiah. Like many Messianic congregations they have a great outreach but sometimes do not have enough volunteers to help carry out the ministry.

Part of Sam’s teaching focused on the need to step up and commit to this important work of reaching their Jewish and Gentile community with the Good News of salvation through their Ben David community.

Dealing With Doubt
Our day of teaching began with the Saturday morning Shabbat service where we rejoiced together through worship and study of the Word. Sam’s message entitled, “Dealing with Doubt” was an exposition of Matthew 28:16-19 with the command to make disciples.

Sam began his message with the question: “How does God deal with our fears and our doubts?” The disciples had seen the miracles of Jesus and here they were with their resurrected Master but the Scripture says in verse 17, “And when they saw Him, they worshiped Him; but some were doubtful.” How encouraging it was for us to learn that instead of condemning His followers, Messiah strengthened and encouraged them to continue His work. This work is the same for us today in our congregations; to make disciples wherever we are going and to not be afraid because He will be with us forever.

Women’s Ministries
In the early afternoon I spoke to the women of Ben David Messianic Congregation. I shared from my heart about the vital need for women to mentor and disciple other women. After my personal testimony we looked at the portion in Titus 2:3-5, “Older women likewise are to be reverent in their behavior, not malicious gossips, nor enslaved to much wine, teaching what is good, that they may encourage the young women to love their husbands, to love their children, to be sensible, pure, workers at home, kind, being subject to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be dishonored.”

We understood together that those of us who are older in the LORD have a mandate to disciple the younger woman that have been strategically placed in our lives. As women to women we want to be giving confidence to one another. We can live Godly in the midst of difficult situations whether it is in our homes, our workplaces or our congregations. We should strive to be maturing women demonstrating our love for the Lord so that our lives will bring glory to the Lord of Glory and testify of His ability to help us become women of valor. The time flew by as this wonderful group of women who serve in so many different ways in the congregation supported one another in their common struggles.

Persevering In Love
Sam continued his Leadership seminar throughout the rest of the day into the evening challenging us to not grow weary in well doing but to see the importance of serving together to both build up the testimony of the Ben David community as well as reach out through various forms of evangelism and witness. The question and answer times revealed a desire for some to commit to volunteering and being more involved in the congregation.

The next day Sam and I met with the leadership team of Ben David for about six hours. Sam instructed on the strengthening and further development of the various systems of the congregation as to discipleship, membership, leadership development and the relationship between the Elders, the Shamashim (deacons) and the congregation.

We then dashed off to counsel with an elder and his wife from a Messianic congregation close to Los Angeles. What a joy it was to reconnect with friends we had not seen for a number of years and to mutually build up one another as we spoke of God’s faithfulness in our lives. There’s much to praise Him for, and much to pray for as we desire to continue to build up congregations and their leadership in order to further the Good News and bring glory to the name of Yeshua. Thank you for your prayers and for standing with us. Y
