This month's Women's Ministry column comes from a
dear friend and sister in the Lord, Carla Phillips, who 'wears several
hats' at our Charlotte congregation plant, Hope of Israel. If you
weren't able to attend this year's retreat, you'll be convinced by the
end of this article that you will certainly not miss next year's event.
And now, here's Carla! |

Eighty-three women, a light dusting of snow,
teaching, worship, coffee, Israeli folk dancing, shopping,
shmoozing, an armor-of-God fashion show, a salad bar, and a
gorgeous mountain view--what exactly do these ingredients add up
to? It could only be the 8th Annual Messianic Women's Retreat!
Each year the ladies of Hope of Israel
Congregation, together with about five other Messianic
congregations, look forward to a weekend of fellowship around
the Word of God. Miriam Nadler encouraged us with teaching that
focused us on having joy in the Lord. Her text was Nehemiah
8:10, where Nehemiah exhorts the people of Israel to let the joy
of the Lord be their strength.
Earlier Miriam had written a theme song for
the retreat, which I was still singing weeks later - 'The joy
of the Lord is my strength / the joy of the Lord is my strength
/ give me Your eyes to see / my life Your tapestry / the joy of
the Lord is my strength.'
What a great reminder of where our focus is
to be - especially when all we see is the back of the tapestry
with all the knots, random endless threads and an unfinished
disjointed picture. God sees the whole picture.
The blessings continued as we met for
early morning devotionals, small group sessions, and
catching up with friends over many, many cups of coffee.
For the retreat Natalia Fomin and Miriam wrote a book
entitled Attaining Security by His Covenant Love
which has the teaching from both this year and last year's
Sisterhood retreats, plus much more! Y
