"The Church" |
Q.
Sam, Am I an Israelite or a ‘saved’ Gentile? I have a personal relationship with Yeshua/Jesus but I’m struggling with how to practice my faith. My background is full of ‘church’ teachings, and I feel there is a struggle in acceptance. When I attend Sabbath, all I hear is how ‘the church’ is almost the anti-Christ, and then when I attend church I’m not spiritually satisfied because of the lack of teaching the TRUE meaning of Torah, and who Jesus really was, a Jew.
Some of my family members think I’m trying to put myself under the old laws when I talk about wanting to keep the [Biblical] Festivals and forsake the old pagan ones. I’ve heard a teaching on “The Two Houses Of Israel” --Am I a part of the “spiritual Israel”?
When people quote the verse about Gentiles being grafted in (Romans 11:17-24), it makes me feel as though I barely had a chance for salvation, and I must have been hanging on the very tip of the olive leaf. I do not want to be offensive because I do know who is supporting ‘the branch’. Thanks, Joan
A. Joan, let me say a few things, and you write me back on what is unclear, etc. First, all things Biblical are about Yeshua. Period. Nothing else and no one else is a close second
“In Him we are complete” (Col 2:10) and “in Him is every blessing” (Eph 1:3). Therefore, ‘being Jewish’, or ‘being
Gentile’ is not the real issue: It’s all about Yeshua. As a child of God, your identity is in Him. The “Two House
theory” (taken from Ezekiel 37:16-19) is just that, a theory, and not a very good one, and at times seems to attempt to evade the Gospel itself.
The truth is Gentiles who believe in Yeshua are still “Gentiles” (Rom 11:13) and not “Ephraimites” (as the proponents of this false theory claim);
and there are no “lost tribes” (see James
1:1, Luke 2:36), though there are many, many spiritually lost Jewish and Gentile people.

Concerning churches, most bible believing churches are not anti-Semitic, let alone anti-Christ. Some admittedly, may be somewhat unaware of the Jewish roots of the biblical faith, but most are sincere in their desire to follow the Lord,
as they understand the matter. Since faith in Yeshua alone is needed for salvation, they are quite saved, and they are generally delighted to learn more about the festivals, etc. (As a messianic leader, I speak in about 70-100 churches a year, so I know of what I speak.) |
Though Shabbat (the Sabbath) is a wonderful time for worship, there is good fellowship to be found on Sundays as well. Make sure the congregation loves Yeshua (they call Him Jesus, of course), follows the Scriptures, and cares about people. Grow there and hey, have them invite me to come and teach about the Jewish people and the festivals, and we'll all rejoice!
Shalom, Sam Y |
