1. Sinners Before God
“All
of us have become like a one who is unclean, and all our righteous acts are like
filthy rags; we all shrivel up like a leaf, and like the wind our sins sweep us
away”
(Isaiah 64:5/6).
Though
we may judge ourselves by relative standards (“I’m as good as the
next person;” or “I’m no worse than the next guy.”), God judges each of
us by absolute standards of Himself and His Law: “You
shall be holy as the Lord your God is holy” (Leviticus 19:2). By His
standards, we are all moral failures.
It
isn’t that you’re not a nice person or forget Mother’s Day, but you and
the next person still fall short of God’s standards. By the way, every Rabbi,
Priest and Minister have the same problem.
Psalm 14:3 declares, “there
is none that does good, no not one.”
So, no one pointing a finger or throwing the first or second stone
at anyone else.
We all have the
same great problem.
2.
Separated
From God
“Surely
the arm of the Lord is not too short to save, nor His ear too dull to hear. But
your iniquities have separated you from your God; your sins have hidden his face
from you so that He will not hear”
(Isaiah
59:1-2).
The
result of our sins is a broken relationship with God. Now you may pray and even
fast, but the Scripture is clear: “He
will not hear”.
It’s
as if I stole money from you, and then have the “chutzpah” (nerve) to come
to and ask you for a gift! The response from you would be, “first let’s deal
with the past offense, then we can consider your present or future needs.” God
wants to bless you, but your sins separate you from Him and must be dealt with
first, before He can bless you.
If this
separation continues to our death, it becomes a judgment of everlasting
separation from God. You must understand that this fact breaks God’s
heart. He truly loves you and desires you to have everlasting life
with Him. That’s why the story doesn’t end here,
but continues on with Good News for your life.
3.
Salvation
In God
“All
we like sheep have gone astray, each of us have turned to his own way; but the
Lord has laid on Him [Messiah]
the sins of us all” (Isaiah
53:6).
Though
there’s no deed that we can do to save ourselves, God has provided the way of
salvation and forgiveness. He promised to send the Messiah to die for our sins,
as our atonement or payment for our sins, because He loves you.
In
the New Covenant, Messiah Yeshua (Jesus’ Hebrew name) states as well, “I
give my life as a ransom for many.” (Matthew 20:28) This is the
salvation and right relationship that God freely offers.
4.
Savior
Is God
“To us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government shall be
upon His shoulders. And He will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace”
(Isaiah 9:5/6).
Only
God Himself alone could provide the perfect sacrifice for sins, for He alone is
perfect. What amazing love and humility, that the Mighty God of Israel would be
born a babe, live as a Jewish man, and die as our perfect atonement. Messiah
Yeshua is “Adonai”, the Lord.
5.
Stayed
Upon God
"You
will keep in perfect peace him whose mind is steadfast, because he trusts in
You”
(Isaiah 26:3).
God
has provided atonement in the Messiah. It is in this provision from God that we
are to trust. Our simple acknowledgement of our sins and our trust in Messiah
Yeshua as our atonement, Savior, and Lord, is all that God requires. Upon your
trust in Messiah, He provides “perfect
peace” and eternal life.
Like
Abraham, you can have a right relationship with God by faith in what God alone
can and has provided:
“Abram believed God, and He credited it to him as righteousness”
(Gen.
15:6).
If
you too believe God, here’s a simple prayer that can assist you:
“Lord,
Please forgive me for all my sins through Messiah’s atonement. Help me to
follow Yeshua and honor You. Thank
you for loving me. Amen.”
