Questions about Isaiah 53
Q.  A question offered at a Reformed synagogue in Westchester, NY where Sam once spoke: “Why do you believe Isaiah 53 speaks of Jesus, when we have learned that the prophet speaks of himself as the suffering servant?”

A.  When you look at the portion you can see from the pronouns that it isn't possible the prophet is speaking of himself as the sufferer: “Surely our griefs He Himself bore (4)... All of us like sheep have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way; but the LORD has caused the iniquity of us all to fall on Him” (6), etc.
Rather than the prophet identifying himself as the innocent sufferer, the prophet identifies himself with those who have gone astray, and as those for whom the Messiah suffered and died! When we read of Yeshua (Jesus) in the New Covenant, we see the one of whom the prophet Isaiah spoke.
Now let me ask you a question: If a true prophet such as Isaiah recognizes his own need for Messiah's atonement, don't you think that we all, Jew & Gentile alike, should acknowledge our need for Messiah’s atonement and personally trust in God’s provision for our souls?
